Can Relaxing Your Frown Lines Elevate Your Mood?

Feeling upset, worried, depressed, or experiencing pain causes the forehead muscles between the eyebrows and above your nose to contract. This area is known as the “Glabella”. So can relaxing the glabella muscles improve your mood? A growing body of research supports this theory.

Botox and Dysport are two popular Neuromodulators which relax muscles to prevent frown lines from forming. As a result, the feedback loop which tells your brain that you are angry, sad, anxious or worried are partially inhibited. Research supports the evidence that relaxing the muscles which are triggered by your negative emotions can help elevate your mood:

It’s no wonder why treating frown lines with Botox or Dysport is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments today. Not only can it cause a positive change in your mood and affect, it can also prevent permanent wrinkles or deep folds from forming.

What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Both Botox and Dysport contain Botulinum toxin Type A (BoNT-A). Botox is manufactured by Allergan, while Dysport is manufactured by Galderma. All BoNT-A products have the same size and weight of active neurotoxin. However, Botox and Dysport have different accessory protein complex components. Dysport is known to have a faster onset of action. 30% of patients have some response to Dysport within 24 hours, 73.3% have response within 48 hours, and 86.7% have response within 72 hours. However, the full effect of either Dysport or Botox will be apparent after 2 full weeks.

For most people, Botox and Dysport lasts for about 3 months. For many patients, Dysport also has a longer duration of action compared with Botox, sometimes up to 4-5 months. Results will vary depending on your individual muscle size, strength, and activity, among other factors.

how much botox or dysport will i need?

Every person responds differently to Botox and Dysport depending on the size, activity and strength of their muscles, and their metabolism. Each treatment cycle may vary based on metabolic rates, stress and activity levels. Physically active individuals tend to have shorter duration due to higher metabolic rates. Your Provider at Rejuve Medspa will customize your treatment based on your aesthetic goals.
